Seguins Fiestas Patrias Celebration Set For Sunday

Seguin’s Fiestas Patrias celebration set for Sunday

Celebrating Mexico’s Independence

Seguin’s Fiestas Patrias celebration is set for Sunday, Sept. 18, at Max Starcke Park, 755 W. Court St. The event is free and open to the public and will feature live music, food, games, and more. It has been a tradition since 1986 and is now one of the largest such events in the state, drawing crowds of more than 75,000 people. The event is presented by the Greater Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The celebration starts at 11 a.m. and will feature a variety of live music on two stages, including mariachi, conjunto, and Tejano music. There will also be a variety of food vendors, including traditional Mexican dishes like tacos, tamales, and enchiladas, as well as a variety of carnival games and rides.

One of the highlights of the event is the traditional grito, or cry for independence, which will take place at 11 a.m. The grito is a traditional Mexican ceremony that commemorates the start of the Mexican War of Independence in 1810. The grito will be led by Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher, who will give the traditional cry of “Viva Mexico!”

Other highlights of the event will include:

  • A parade featuring floats, marching bands, and other groups
  • A car show
  • A Miss Fiestas Patrias pageant
  • A domino tournament

The event is a great way to celebrate Mexican independence and culture, and it’s a fun-filled day for the whole family.
